Attributes overview

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Attributes are the value pairs that you map to the questions and responses in your experiences that are most important to your data strategy and retargeting plans. Attributes allow you to build customer profiles, create audience segments, and pass data collected through the experience to other external systems.

Before you begin

  • Ensure you have identified the key data points you wish to collect.

Add and map Attributes

  1. To add attributes at the campaign level, select the Attributes option from the toolbar in the upper right corner of the builder map.

  2. In this menu, you can map all screens. Start by clicking on the Add Attribute under 'Attributes 1' column dropdown to either search, select an existing attribute or create a new one attribute for each question screen that you plan to add attributes to. This will allow you to start typing out your attribute label.

  3. If you are creating a new attribute, type out your attribute label. As you type, you'll notice text appear below your cursor. Click on this text to map the attribute to your screen.

  4. After mapping the attribute to the screen, you have the option to either type in a custom attribute value or select the three dot menu to add responses labels as attribute values to each response.

  5. Form attribute mapping differs from mapping attributes to question screens. Here, you map attributes directly to form inputs by selecting from the dropdown menu or creating a unique label by typing it in. Please note, that you should label opt-in attribute values to identify each opt-in if there are multiple opt-in checkboxes in the form.

  6. To remove an Attribute from a campaign, hover over the attribute value you wish to remove > Select the X that will appear on the value to delete.

Mapping Attributes on screens with multiple inputs

For screens that include multiple dropdowns, multi-selects, or “select all that apply” inputs, you’ll use the multi-column attribute mapping interface. This requires careful mapping so that each data point is captured accurately.

  1. Click the Attributes icon in the top-right corner of the builder map.

  2. Locate the screen that contains your multiple inputs.

  3. For a screen with three drop down inputs, you would need to add three columns for each unique attribute you plan to map (e.g., skin type, industry, age).

  4. To add a column, scroll to the top of the Attributes table and select Add column +. This ensures that each input is mapped separately and that their values are not accidentally grouped under the same attribute.

  5. Scroll down in the attribute table until you see the row that corresponds to the first input (e.g., the row labeled for the “Skin Type” dropdown).

  6. In the correct row and under the correct column, click into the cell.

  7. Type or select the attribute value that corresponds to that dropdown choice. For example, under the “Skin Type” column, assign values like “Oily,” “Dry,” or “Combination. This equates to one of the drop-downs on the screen.

  8. Repeat Steps 3–4 for each additional dropdown or multi-select input:

    • Scroll to the row for the input.

    • Assign values under the column that matches its intended attribute.

  9. Once completed, click Save.

Tip: Each attribute should get its own column for multiple inputs, do not reuse a column for multiple inputs.

Brand Attributes

You can also create attributes and attribute values at the brand level. To access the brand Attribute menu, follow the steps below.

1. Hover over the Attribute tab on the top navigation bar. Now select Attribute tab in the dropdown menu.

2. In the menu, click on the Create Attribute on the top right and follow the prompts to create the attribute and attribute value.

3. A pop-up module will display for you to fill in the attribute value information. You have the option to group attributes to organize the attributes in sets of categories.

4. To copy attributes across brands, click on the copy icon on the top right of the Attribute menu. A pop-up module will prompt you to choose the brand and select the attributes you wish to copy over. Please note, that copying attributes only copies the attribute labels over. No data is copied over with the attributes.

5. In the main Attribute menu, you can edit, hide or delete an Attribute from your brand. Select the three dot menu to see the options.

Note: You can only delete Attributes from your account that have no associated data.

Next steps

  • Review your experiences to ensure all relevant questions and responses have mapped attributes.

FAQ

If I map attributes to a launched experience, will the attributes backfill to sessions already captured?

  • If you have mapped attributes to an experience that has already launched, then you first need to make sure you have published! Then, the attribute should backfill onto previous sessions, but it can take a little bit of time for the script to run. If you check back a day later and you do not see that the attributes have backfilled for you, reach out to our team!
