Overlay Responses

Updated this week

When building experiences you can share facts, knowledge, or even poll results with your users in different ways using “Overlay Responses”. This feature is an awesome way to add an engaging touch to your experiences screen by screen.

Adding Overlay Responses

Follow these steps to add Overlay Responses to a screen:

  1. From the Screen Editor, click Overlay Responses from the left-hand menu.

  2. You will be directed to the page where you can add and edit your overlays.

Customizing Overlay Responses

Use the controls on the left-hand menu to customize your Overlay Responses. A preview appears on the right-hand side of the screen as you choose options.

You can customize the following:

  • Display: You can choose to display the overlay response as Answer Bar or Full Screen. By default it is set to None so that it doesn't display

  • Message: Fill out a unique message for each response.

  • Duration: Specify the duration (in seconds) you want the Overlay Response to display. By default, after a spin is complete, the user advances after two seconds. You can adjust this duration. You can modify the duration even without adding an Overlay Response message.

  • Polling: To enable polling, check Show Poll Results from the left-hand menu. When this feature is on, users see an overlay on each button showing how often other users select each response.

  • Polling Overlay Color: If you use the polling feature, you can customize the overlay color after selecting Show Poll Results.

Managing Overlay Responses

  • If you plan to add an Overlay Response to one panel (like on a Spinner screen), you should add one to all of your panels. If you choose a style like 'Full Screen' but don't add a message for each panel, users landing on a panel without a message will see the overlay color flash without messaging.

  • Polling percentages appear random when testing because Jebbit requires data from at least ten sessions on the launched version of the experience before real percentages are calculated and displayed.

  • You cannot reset polling percentages after ten real responses have been collected on a screen. You can reset the percentages by making a copy of your experience and using that instead, or by creating a brand new screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the best way to preview an Overlay Response?

As you build out your Overlay Responses, you will see a preview appear on the right hand side of the screen. This is a good way to gauge how your Overlay Responses will look. However, you can take it a step further by clicking on the 'Preview' button from the Builder Map. This will allow you to engage with your experience like a consumer would, which will give you the truest sense of how your Overlay Responses are working.

  • I just added the polling feature to my quiz but the polling percentages don't seem accurate.

If you are testing the polling feature, then you may notice that the polling percentages appear random. This is because Jebbit requires data from at least ten sessions on the launched version of the experience before real percentages are calculated and displayed. So for a very small period of time, the percentages are random.

  • Can I reset the polling percentages on my experience?

You are not able to reset the polling percentages after ten real responses have been collected on a screen. However, you can reset the percentages by making a copy of your experience and using that instead, or by creating a brand new screen.
